Oral Surgery and Dental Implants
Dr. Mitchell can provide you and your family a variety of oral surgery services. From single tooth extractions and wisdom teeth (3rd molars), to full mouth extractions and implant placement. Take advantage of sedation dentistry for these more invasive procedures!
An implant is placed in the bone and acts as an artificial tooth root.
Dental implants make it possible to replace missing teeth, and provide support for snap-on dentures.
Benefits of implants include:
- Natural look and feel
- Preservation of bone
- Unaffected adjacent teeth (as compared to a bridge)
When there is insufficient bone support for dental implants, bone grafting is required.
Bone grafting and guided tissue regeneration can be used to build-up and preserve the area surrounding a missing tooth prior to the placement of dental implant.
Bone grafting may also be required to provide adequate coverage of a dental implant at time of placement.
Gum surgery called crown lengthening is performed when there is not enough tooth height remaining to support a crown.
Crown lengthening is also used to change the esthetic look of short or worn teeth (as in the case to the right).
